THE EFFECT OF NUTRITION EDUCATION ON ENERGY CONSUMPTION ALTERATION AND BODY MASS INDEX IN OVERWEIGHT ADOLESCENTS (The study was conducted in Dominico Savio High School Semarang)

Background: Overweight in adolescence may last to adulthood and lead to various diseases. Nutrition education and eating pattern management is one of the efforts to overcome overweight in adolescents. This research aims to compare the effect of individual-based nutrition education and group-based nutrition education on energy alteration and body mass index in overweight adolescents.
Method: Experimental research with non-randomized pre post design. The population consists of overweight students aged 12 -14 of Dominico Savio Junior High School. The division of treated groups is made using Convenient Sampling – based on the subjects’ willingness to take nutrition education program. BMI percentile is obtained by using nutrisoft program based on the subjects’ age and sex. Energy Adequacy Ratio (EAR) and fat intake percentage are obtained from the average of a 3-day food record compared to daily energy need. Shapiro Wilk is used for data normality test. Paired t - test and Wilcoxon test are used to analyze the data in order to compare the percentile of BMI, Energy Adequacy Ratio percentage and fat intake percentage before and after nutrition education program conducted on each researched group. Independent t-test and Mann Whitney test are used to compare different decline in BMI, Energy Adequacy Ratio and fat intake percentage in the two researched groups.
